if even a lean strip of elastic is inlaid into the expanse of summer, its shelf life is extended. lozenge after lozenge changes constitution of the body's headrest. I have learned repeatedly that I know nothing in this life expect the dowry of experience. and something hurts against my better judgment. all that I can do is tell you cinder after cinder as it learns that shine dissolves an image by distracting sensory indulgence. sliver of a mirror cell condemns darkness by allocating space for unexpected happiness. and pleasure in small stages stays contagious. in a little while the earthworm will have played a tunnel from a cluster of earth molecules toward another. what difference does it make that yellow birds might sing? who captures and who has capability of remaking every birth of sound? the captions that go with our skin induce perfume. when warm, recipients release the formality of obedience in favor of deliberate appearing shadows. now and at the hour.

these louvered doors
how unsafely they emit pleasing
and otherwise tall beams
nobody argues
nobody says why can't these plants live on
nothing but because we empathize . . .
the sure dew lifts and now
we have blooms also
small feathers left here
demonstrate the mood and summer
whose mood fits
my own dream resonates with
who is in the dream
who stays after
who stays overtime
and what is left to come

there is no winter in the damages
one plays in comfortable surroundings
I love you for example
when morning
the dewbirds rain away
and then a fabled innocence
replays the dark as if and everafter
there will be a tiny oval sun
crayoned yellow to exceed
the expectations of a Monday left alone
to tithe and render an informal
latitude on seasoned expectations
I always harbor you
I look at thick glass and I memorize
"not this" where "this" might have been
and I return to laboratory mention
of the negative I brought to life
I study that
I temper what I feel by looking hard
and then looking away
momentary madness lives upon the brink
of free time where the limber overlay
of moral brackets house one or another
